social networking (1)

The map of who is using what is very interesting - it gives a good idea of on which sites libraries could put a social networking presence up - I have been very impressed with some of the library sites on myspace. we are working towards doing this at our library.
This topic i am finding more familiar - I set up my own myspace a while ago (just to see how it worked) but as none of my friends have social networking sites it really doesn't work. I have had suggestions to make it more of a hobby site - but I don't know it just doens't hold a lot of interest for me at the moment. And of course council has removed access to myspace....grrrr. Recently a high school colleague set up a geocities site - http://www.geocities.com/bhhs_nsw_1977/?
so I have joined and been chatting to former school friends here, I have also added quite a bit of content to the site with access to some newspaper articles for scanning etc.

applications

talk about a 1001 ways to do things...an absolutely great list produced in the training for ways to do things - as others said its stunning! - and yes its easy to see how we can use all these applications in the workroom, public use will probably take longer. But isn't it great that when they (the public) start coming in and asking us about these applications that we will have some inkling of what the heck they are talking about...

I used the Warholizer on Big Huge Labs to come up with this photo taken of a sunset that I had...I will have to introduce this website to my 15 year old - she is into photography at the moment and could do a lot with her photos

With the mashup library applications I liked the Voicethread idea - not just for Local Studies but also for Genealogy

podcasts

Library applications - I note on the Denver site that there are copyright notes on each book being podcast. It would be great to provide some additional storytelling outreach services this way. With our last HSC lecture series we asked our speakers if we could record them for a podcast or video them but they all declined (they lose money this way)

answer boards and social bookmarking

well I took a look at taste.com.au, and the first recipe I looked up sounded great and low and behold there was a little delicious logo down the bottom so I added it in to my delicious account - this is fun!
Answer boards - i have run into these before just with general reference enquiries - sometimes I have found them to be good at other times just annoying - i like the slam the boards idea of doing it on the 10th of the month so will put it in my calendar - if I am on the reference desk on these days I can have a look and try some

adding a delicious feed

I found the delcious feed url but for some reason I can't put it into my blog as a FEED on the layout page - this is the URL I found on my delicious page

I will give this some further thought and it might appear later on my blog
I quite like delicious and would definitely like to use it to bookmark all the websites that are on my desktop. We have it showing on our reference desk pc's so I think staff will start using it after this training
